Grumble Jones January Scenario GJ131 On the Road To Subang

2024 is here and hopefully it will be a good year. We have a lot to face in the coming year and here's hoping we are all up to the challenges that life will throw at us. The 2023 scenarios are now in the past and it's time to begin the new year's "From your Momma's Basement" scenarios.

Lately, January has been a PTO scenario and that will be the tradition going forward. Best way to beat the gloomy days of winter is to find yourself sweating in the jungles of the PTO!!

January's scenario was inspired by the final color plate in this Osprey Tome. My collection is now at 144 volumes from the Battle of Hastings to the Ia Drang.

I have actually been contemplating reducing the size of my overall library and focusing entirely on Osprey. The entire 144 reside on a single bookshelf. They are compact, packed with info and extremely well done.

I'm eagerly awaiting the next Osprey release on the Grossdeutschland Divsion. It's currently on pre-order and due end of January.

The action for this month's scenario involves the first Dutch Armor assault in their history. The Japanese have taken control and airbase and the Dutch are counterattacking to reclaim it. The scenario begins afte the Dutch successfully drive through a steel wire road block. The Japanese had strung it between to horse drawn carts. A Dutch armored car succeeded in breaking through, but was itself immobilized. It begins the scenario as a wreck.

Note about the counters. I have been using the BFP Poland in Flames Polish Counters for my Minor Allies. My existing Minor Allies are very old counters from Last Hurrah and Doomed Battalions. They are pretty raggedy. But Dan Best informed me that the reverse morale values are incorrect when using these for Minor Allies. So, please sure to use your Minor Allies counters and not the BFP Poles, which I have pictured.

Anyway, here is 2024's inaugural scenario. Happy 2024 everyone!

As always, these monthly "Basement Quality" Scenarios are offered for fun only and as a thank you to the readers of this blog.

Remember to open pictures in a new window in order to maximize the size.
