Grumble Jones February Scenario GJ144 "An Argan Tug of War"

Well January is over...and thank goodness for that. Pretty bleak month...of course not expecting rainbows or unicorns anytime soon. But ASL is still there and as good a companion as any of us could ask for in these uncertain times we are living.

We left the comics this time and have gone back to the Osprey Publishing roots for this month's scenario. I a have been intrigued by the early fighting in British Somaliland and Ethiopia. The fighting around Keren and the Tug Argan Pass are particularly interesting. Both MMP and LFT have put out some great scenarios covering these campaigns. But I wanted to take my shot at putting together a British Somaliland scenario.

One of Osprey's latest releases covers the fighting to control the Horn of African from 1940-41. And this particularly volume is pretty outstanding. It covers both the Keren fighting as well as that for the Tug Argan pass.

The big challenge is finding in the text the kind of small unit narration that you gives you enough meat to craft together a scenario. I spent more than a few nights scanning this book for the right inspiration.

I eventually found just enough around the early phases of the Tug Argan Pass fighting to put together this month's scenario.

As readers are aware, my scenarios do not benefit from extensive playtesting. A thorough walk through by yours truly is generally the extent. My buddy Dan Best, will assist from time to time in playing through the GJ scenarios. His input is also very welcome and contributes mightily to making these scenarios better.

Not much more to say about the scenario, it's an early war action with Italians facing off with British-Rhodesian infantry trying to stop a combined arms assault. ATR's are your friend...so don't MALF them.

As always, these monthly "Basement Quality" Scenarios are offered for fun only and as a thank you to the readers of this blog.
