Grumble Jones September Scenario - GJ125 Harckocsi Assault

The hot days of summer continue as we move into September. Although...85 degrees is a whole lot better than the 105 that has been our normal for the past few weeks. As a result, of the extreme heat, my wife and I have spent more time indoors and cancelled our weekend walks. Today was the first time walking in about three weeks. No lie...I so miss the summers of my youth spent in the mountains of NE Tennessee and the beaches of Assateague Island. We could be outside all day and not be burned up like these days. The 1970's were good for something.

This month's scenario would be my third taken from the Osprey Combat Series book Hungarian Soldier versus Soviet Soldier. And there are still more good little scenarios in its pages.

I've never been a huge fan of the Axis Minor Allies, but early Operation Barbarossa actions are a good time for playing the various Axis Minors and in particular, the Hungarians, who performed ably enough in the south.

And for the Russians, playing against Axis Minor Allies gives them a little better chance than against the Wehrmacht.

This month's scenario depicts a brief stand by the Russians to hold a hill and slow down the Hungarians as they advanced in support of the larger German formations.

Now that September has made its debut...that means the annual Halloween Scenario is just around the corner...staring at us no doubt. This year will see a two-scenario effort with a custom Rick Reinesch map to play out scenes from a beloved movie. It's been an exciting project and having learned the lessons of the "Where the 2 Half-Squads Dare"...we kept it simple this time. An easily printed map will give players a chance to pit Col. Pitts against Col. Steiner. Look for it in October.

As always, these monthly "Basement Quality" Scenarios are offered for fun only and as a thank you to the readers of this blog.
