Grumble Jones January Scenario GJ116 Taukkyan Roadblock

Happy 2023!!! Hopefully, the holidays were good for one and all. I managed a two week break with family in Tulsa for the duration. Last holdouts returned home today after we got their Southwest flights refunded and got them on American Airlines. Enough said on that topic.

The only downside to having family over...was not being able to play any ASL. I did sneak in one more game with Dan Best on the 30th. It was a great Schwerpunkt Scenario. We played SP240 Quiet Desperation. It's a small scenario and of course if unforgiving of bad luck. But otherwise, was a really fun game. It was a great way to end the year. I highly recommend the scenario if you have not played it.

Of course, a new month and a new year bring us to the next iteration of GJ Scenarios. So today we place the first 2023 scenario in what will be "From Your Mama's Basement Pack VII".  In case you are new to Grumble Jones scenarios, let me be upfront that these are not play tested. They go through my own personal process, but that in no way gives them the kind of scrutiny and validation that MMP or any of the other third-party producers put their scenarios through. These are truly for fun only and as a thank you to the readers of this blog. My goal was to provide something tangible to those who take the time to read this blog. A quick glance through the Game Squad Forums will show how much play testers and playtesting are needed to keep reputable product flowing through the pipeline. So, I hope you can support them and assist them with play testing. I have supported a couple packs through the years and can confirm that is usually a very worthwhile way to experience the game and give something back to the greater ASL community. And supporting these third-party producers pays us all back in spades. Just look at Purple Heart Draw, Crucible of Steel, the HazMO's packs, LFT, and so many others. We all benefit from the quality publications put out by so many third-party producers.

So big surprise...Osprey was the source of inspiration for this month's GJ scenario. I cannot get enough of these books. I absolutely love them...and tell all of you that often enough. But seriously, they are priced well, packed full of great content and have the small unit action detail to flesh out some great ASL scenarios.

I have always found the CBI campaign to be very interesting. Back in 1988, while working at eyeglass store in St. Louis (D.O.C. Optical), I worked with a Jewish doctor, who had flown over the Hump during the war. He met Stilwell on one occasion and had some fascinating stories about that part of World War II.

This month' scenario depicts the Japanese trying to man a roadblock in front of retreating Allied forces, making their way to Rangoon. Just some very basic ASL in the jungle with a few toys on either side.

As always, these monthly "Basement Quality" Scenarios are offered for fun only and as a thank you to the readers of this blog.

  1. Hey, that was kick! The Osprey book is from 24 Nov 2022! And your scenarios are always plenty of ideas and well profiled, even if they have not been properly playtested. I download and examinate with great interest. And proof that they have "something" it's your Grumble Jones pack.
Happy New Year for you and yours!
