Grumble Jones Annual Halloween Scenario GJ100 U-Bahn Untoten

So here we are at GJ100...the 100th scenario in the GJ series. My earlier KSM series was a little too homemade looking, so glad to have left that series behind. Of course the GJ series will continue to have a homemade appearance as they should. We have traveled since the release of the first zombie scenario...The Dyhernfurth Terror, Die Untoten...Die Untoten, Die Glocke, Das Golem, The Heroes of Hollis, Jurassic Peiper, Mohave Madness and Where the Half-Squads Dare.

Jurassic Peiper may have been most outlandish Halloween Scenario and I doubt if anyone has even attempted to play it...but it was hoot to put together!

I'm sure everyone has their favorite to either like or hate!!! They are not to be taken seriously of course. My relationship with ASL has always been a bit cheeky as I'm more than a little irreverent towards the keepers of the ASL faith. I believe ASL should be fun and shared with as many like minded folks as possible. This game is truly the greatest of its kind and in my own opinion has absolutely no equals.

Of course Bond is talking about ASL...once you've played...it's all you ever want to play...

The above link will direct you the backstory for this year's Halloween Scenario. The backstories of the most enjoyable aspect of creating the Halloween scenarios. I try to ground the stories in as much fact as possible, which make it even more fun. We can be certain that there remain many bizarre WW2 stories that have never been declassified. What paranormal events may have been witnessed as the armies journeyed into remote areas of the Balkans, Russia and China-Burma-India? What might they have discovered that had not been known before? And what evils might the Nazis have unleashed in their quest for mythical artifacts? It is that spirit that the Grumble Jones Halloween scenarios are foisted upon the ASL Community. My earnest hope is that they provide a moment of comic relief and if played, an evening of mindless fun.

The effort to find an appropriate map for 1945 Berlin...when you don't own of the Critical Heat or other Third Party Publications around Berlin was a bit problematic. I considered combining various Geo-Boards...but that didn't quite work for me. So I went with a half panel of George Kelln's impressive Konigsberg Map. It had enough of a Berlin urban feel to it to work. It also had plenty of sewer entrances to double as Subway entrances.

A long-time reader, Eric Garrard always contributes some ideas as Halloween rolls around. He made a good point, that many readers may not have the Konigsberg map. So if not, I'll direct you to get a copy from Lone Canuck.  KBR (lonecanuckpublishing.ca)

If you are not able to get a copy of George's excellent Konigsberg The Bear's Revenge, then we'll have to find another way for you to enjoy this mindless madness. So here goes...

In order to play this scenario without the Konigsberg map, you will need to do the following:
a) choose any urban map(s) Red Factories, Into the Rubble 1 and 2 from BFP, or a combination of urban Geo Boards will all work.
b) make sure the battle area allows the Russian and German forces to set up at least 10 hexes apart and 20 hexes away from a potential safe location as specified in the victory conditions.
c) roll the dice and have fun!

U-Bahn Untoten is designed as a 3 Player game and it's entirely possible that the German and Russian Player may find themselves joined in common cause...particularly given the high number of zombie squads that will find their way onto the streets of Berlin. Remember..the enemy of your enemy is your friend...unless you're a zombie and then you have no friends...cause you're DEAD!

Even the attractive zombies...should be avoided...

Okay...I think that covers it...here now is GJ100, this year's Halloween Scenario. May it entertain!

As always these monthly "Basement Quality" Scenarios are offered for fun only and as a thank you to the readers of this blog.

Remember to open pictures in a new window in order to maximize the size.

  1. I put what I think is a correct map view up on the Archive if you want to swap in in here.
