Spring has sprung in Oklahoma...and that means tornado season...March through June are usually fairly active. By July...it's just freakin' hot here and stays that way through October. Twenty plus years of living in Oklahoma have taught me a bit about the rhythms of Oklahoma's weather. It's rarely gentle...and tends to be extreme. Currently, the sustained winds have been a pain in the neck. And winds mean grass fires...the smell of smoke hangs heavy in the air. We already had a fatal tornado to the west of us on March 6th. Four fatalities in that event with two in Beggs, OK. My son is a Creek County Paramedic and spent the night in Beggs assisting other First Responders is looking for victims of that EF3 storm. Here in Bixby that night, my wife and I spend about two hours in the bathtub. The sirens blared on and off that entire time as the Beggs tornado passed south of us and kept reforming and touching down, which was why the sirens seemed to never stop.
This month's scenario is taken from the outstanding Einsatz Arnheim book by Marcel Zwarts. Highly recommend obtaining a copy. Not inexpensive, but very much worth the cost. I'm looking forward to "Going Cardboard" with more events from this tome.
A nice YouTube clip of Marcel Zwarts talking about the book.
GJ159 The Den Brink Gate draws its inspiration from Steve Noon's outstanding illustration in Einsatz Arnheim of the Germans moving through the gate with a Panzerjaeger IV. I made this as DASL scenario. It was challenging incorporating a substantial wall into the scenario. Naturally, this situation won't lend itself to replay ability, but it's rare these days to play a scenario more than once given the huge number available to us these days.
GJ159 is the first scenario to sport the new Grumble Jones Logo.
As always, these monthly "Basement Quality" Scenarios are offered for fun only and as a thank you to the readers of this blog.
Remember to open pictures in a new window in order to maximize the size.
All Grumble Jones scenarios are available from the ASL Archive website.
